What it does

Renders the layer(s) below as counted cross-stitch on aida cloth. The image is quantised to a grid of stitches, each cell snapped to the nearest floss colour, and drawn as an X of two crossing threads with a little shading so each thread reads round, and the bare weave showing between them. Controls: stitch count (the aida "count"), thread width, weave gap, thread shading, and a coverage control that can leave the palest cells as bare cloth like an unfinished piece; snap-to-floss with an editable palette (or full source colour) and a saturation control; cloth colour and the faint aida holes. Cell-based, so it stays cheap at any canvas size. With no source it stitches a synthesized gradient so it still previews.
