What it does

Decomposes the subject of the layer below into pixel blocks, traces it, and optionally spells it out in letters. The subject is isolated by colour distance from the frame border average — no model, and it works because a photographed subject rarely matches the colour of its own margins. From that one mask everything follows: the body is quantised into chunky blocks of the source colour, cells are punched back to paper by clumping noise so it reads as coming apart rather than as static, silhouette-edge blocks take the accent, and an offset contour is traced outside the shape with optional wobble and concentric rings. Letters overlay the subject (spelling the animal out), the background (lettering the negative space), or everything — sitting on top of the decomposed blocks rather than replacing them, so the photo stays visible between the type. They render on their own grid, so they stay legible at any block size, with size and size-variation controls, fill density, an optional accent ground behind the glyphs and a share of cells kept photographic so the picture bleeds through the type. Detection boxes snap to the subject bounds (with size, line weight and opacity controls) and scatter marks strew ticks, crosses and code strings over the plate (with size and variation). Controls: block size, subject cut and invert, dropout amount and scale, edge accent; outline offset, rings, wobble and weight; letter mode, character set, size, variation, ground, density and photo bleed; boxes with size/weight/opacity, marks with size/variation; paper, accent, ink, box and mark colours, photo saturation. Animate (off by default) with Decompose (the body comes apart and knits back), Scan (a band sweeps across lettering what it crosses) or Shuffle (glyphs and marks re-roll). All loop seamlessly for export. With nothing below it uses a synthesized form so the effect still reads.
